Advanced data transformations with Synerise Automation

Today we're excited to share with you some of the updates we've made in the area of Data Transformation in the Automation module. We've expanded the capabilities of this feature, providing you with more flexibility to shape your data into a usable format.

Before we get to the latest updates, let's step back and recap the purpose of data transformation and how you can use it in your workflows.

Purpose of data transformation

The main purpose of data transformation is to clean the data and bring it up to the standard required for import into Synerise or export to external tools.

The created transformation rules can be used in any workflow automation, allowing efficient data exchange between Synerise and external solutions.

Let's take a look at the latest updates and explore how they enrich your current data transformation capabilities.

Key changes

1.    Schemaless format transformation

Now you can perform transformations on XML and JSON file formats in addition to CSV files. So you can easily transform your product feeds and any other data stored in these formats.

2.    New preview for XML and JSON

With support for new format transformations, we have added a dedicated data preview appearance. This allows you to control the effect of your transformations at every stage.

3.    Jinja support

You can still perform data transformations with basic configuration in transformation nodes. However, with the introduction of the well-known Jinja, users can now easily prepare extended transformations without any limitations. This is a very useful option in cases where you want to change values in columns by applying certain conditions, filling in empty values, or adding an EventSalt column.

You can learn more about Data Transformation inserts in our Developer Guide.

4.    Handle errors

Errors happen. With advanced options for error handling in transformations, you have full control over its process. For each rule, you can choose from 5 available error-handling options. This means more predictability and even better performance in the data processing.

5.    Refreshed transformation goals

You are completely free to choose the goals of your transformation. This is no longer a mandatory step to take in order to create a transformation rule, while it is a beneficial option in case the transformation result should be imported into Synerise. Goals will suggest to you the required fields needed to perform the import into Synerise.
